Hi my name is Mira right now I'm in seventh grade at St. Louis Park Middle School. In my Language and Literature Class we got to pick a research topic about a global issue. For My topic I picked Animal Abuse, while researching animal abuse I found out that only 50% of Animal Shelters are No-Kill in the United States. And because of this, more than 400,000 dogs are euthanized every year. I am petitioning for more no kill shelters, and raising awareness for animal abuse and the problem this truly is in the United States. In addition I am also encouraging people to donate to Animal shelters in hopes that this will allow more room for animals in those shelters since I understand space is limited. I hope you enjoy reading my petition. 

  Across the United States animals are being mistreated. Did you know that over 10 million animals are victims of animal abuse every year just in the United States? Animals Are being Neglected, Tested on, Hoarded, kept in Mills where living conditions are second to how many of you there are and being forced to fight for human entertainment. In fact did you know that about 3/4 of animal abusers aren't first time offenders? 

     If things stay this way animals will continue to be mistreated and abused, People will get away with this crime. And even if they get caught the punishment isn't that severe, they will be free in less than a year. In Minnesota people will go to jail for 364 days or will pay a fee of 3,000 dollars. After that nothing is stopping them from abusing animals again.

At times Animal Shelters won't have enough room for more animals, or will lack the funding they need to provide for these animals. Due to this they will have to try to send them to another animal shelter or these shelters will be forced to euthanize an animal.

     But if we act now we can help millions of animals live to an old age and experience life outside of the hardships they have experienced. After reading my petition I encourage you to donate an animal shelter so more animals will have the opportunities to experience loving homes.
