Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Thank you for your prayers, support, and dedication over the past three years. Through God's grace, we have reached an important milestone in our efforts to preserve the Marian Shrine of Gratitude at 3100 Weston Road. Following two community meetings and strong public participation, Councillor Anthony Perruzza successfully moved a motion at Etobicoke York Community Council directing City staff and legal counsel to oppose the proposed development at the Ontario Land Tribunal.
The motion passed unanimously.
The matter will now proceed to Toronto City Council:
City Council Meeting
Date: June 24–26, 2026
Time: 9:30 a.m. daily
Item: EY32.5 – 3100 Weston Road – Zoning By-law Amendment Application – Appeal
Report
Council will consider five key recommendations:
1. Direct City staff and legal counsel to oppose the current development application at the
Ontario Land Tribunal.
2. Protect the City's interests should any portion of the appeal be approved.
3. Review easement obligations and consult with the Toronto and Region Conservation
Authority (TRCA).
4. Review traffic and road safety impacts related to the proposed development.
5. Explore the acquisition of public lands that have been used as a school and community
facility for more than seventy years.
The property includes the historic Rivermede House, the former St. Basil-the-Great College School, and the Chapel of St. Basil the Great. For generations, these buildings and grounds have served as places of faith, education, heritage, prayer, and community service.
We urgently ask all supporters to write to Toronto City Council and express your support for preserving this historic and sacred site.
