The deadline for the Inner West Council’s public consultation on their plans to rezone the Lungs of Leichhardt for apartments closes 17 December 2023 - that’s this Sunday.

Visit the Lungs of Leichhardt to get info on how you can put in a submission to oppose their plans to rezone this site. There’s a one page template that you can use or modify:

Submission Template and Instructions

If you want to learn more about the details about how harmful this plan, there’s also a link to the full report on the Biodiversity and Environmental issues.

This rezoning plan will spell the end of small birds in Leichhardt. This is the last place in our suburb where it’s common to see small birds like Superb Fairy Wrens, plus it’s home to countless other wildlife including the Grey-headed Flying Fox. Long Nosed Bilby and Powerful Owls, not to mention established colonies of Kookaburras.

The GreenWay is also the main wildlife corridor across the Inner West for migratory birds and bats - so the removal of this urban backyard forest (which includes 100 year old gum trees) will have far greater impacts than just on Leichhardt’s wildlife alone.

Please help us save this precious area for future generations. Especially when there are alternative nearby sites that could deliver higher density housing more quickly and with more certainty WITHOUT any ecological destruction.

AND PLEASE HELP US SHARE THE PETITION - We're now at over 1800 signatures - it would be great if we could get to 2000!
