Campaign Update: Inner West Council Meeting
The Inner West Council is meeting this Tuesday 13 Feb 2024 and Council staff's preliminary report of rezoning of our urban forest is on the agenda (Item 3 - Parramatta Road Corridor Stage 1 – Proposal (PRCUTS) – Preliminary Engagement Outcomes).
In the meeting's agenda (PDF), there are letters from multiple NSW State Government agencies that have raised significant concerns with the rezoning proposal. Including the State's Department of Planning and Environment raising significant Biodiversity issues and noting there is a known roost site of the threatened Large Bent-wing Bat (Miniopterus orianae oceanensis) within 50m of the area to be rezoned.
Also on the agenda (Item 2), is State Government Housing Reforms - Implications for the Inner West Draft Submission, which relates to the State Government’s proposed housing strategy which would automatically authorise apartment buildings of six or more storeys in large parts of our suburbs. This will be to Sydney's urban forests - not just ours.
If you're in the Inner West, then we encourage you to attend at the Inner West Council meeting at 6.30pm at Ashfield Service Centre, 260 Liverpool Road Ashfield. Council meetings are streamed live on the Council's website.
