Are you aware that there is a form given to some Year12 students to sign, which if they do sign, are no longer considered to be students at the school and there are a host of other circumstances that then come into play.
As recently as term 3 last year, these forms were given to children who were struggling to meet the standards imposed by the curriculum and the school, who need the students to achieve a good to high level Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for the schools.
This is not only an issue for public schools but affects some private schools as well who contact the government school in the area to ensure the children will be accepted.
I have been advised by Year 12 students recently who had been given a leavers form, that the school they attended would not allow them to attend the Graduation or Formal as they have not completed their SACE studies.
The ongoing issues this causes for the students missing out on their formal and all the exciting preparation associated with the event, with their families and friends. Not to mention the memories they will never have – as other students have and talk about in their future life
Some interesting articles have been published in The Advertiser on 8 and 14 January 2023 relating to the ATAR scores – certainly worth a read.
