More Catholic parishes in Cornwall, Ontario area are expected to be closed. Church leaders have been told that the archbishop of Ottawa-Cornwall wants to consolidate  St. Columban (the Heritage Designated historic and architecturally significant mother church of all Cornwall English & French Catholic churches) with the smaller and much more recent St. Francis de Sales. Parishioners from both churches want to keep their own church and do not favor forced merger. It sounds as though St. Columban may face a forced closure without all options being explored. Lay leaders have viable proposals and are committed to seeing them through. Parishioners want to plan their upcoming 200-year anniversary in 2029. Everyone who values this magnificent church structure and/or the parish, regardless of religious affiliation, is encouraged to sign our petition to let the archbishop know this matters to you.
