Help Save Pleasant Hill's 1920’s Historic Schoolhouse

Help Save Pleasant Hill's 1920’s Historic Schoolhouse
The Issue
- We ask that the Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District Board have the forward wisdom and vision to save the 105-year-old Pleasant Hill Schoolhouse at 2050 Oak Park Blvd.
- We urge the PHRPD to pursue efforts to save the iconic structure, either by rehabilitating it or preserving it at a minimal level until such time that the board finds the funding to preserve the building.
- The Old Schoolhouse can serve the community both culturally and educationally in many ways.
This amazing building housed one of Pleasant Hill’s first schools, its first police station, a theater company, and several community groups, including the Pleasant Hill Historical Society.
It is the oldest public building still standing in the city.
This building means so much to this community and has much potential for future generations, especially in a city whose historic sites have been eliminated over the years.
THIS IS THE LAST HISTORICAL PUBLIC BUILDING!
Please thoroughly review and consider Paul Nilsen’s recently submitted four-page list of potential strategies that the District has acquired, including strategies to raise the funds to preserve the Old Schoolhouse.
We would like this building to be placed on the
State Historic Register.
register and see it protected as a valuable resource.
Historical and community asset.
Partner with Contra Costa History Center to preserve documents open as visitor center.
School field trips, history classes, food events, outdoor movies on the lawn in the summer, dog park south and dog training - frisbee, farmers markets, coffee and wine events, inside theater and car shows, vintage flea market days..... the possibilities are endless......
