Some recent real world experiences have come to light, about 4 existing affordable housing projects, by Cumberland Housing, in the area. The affordable housing project at Vieille Caserne Private in Queenswood Heights, is less than 1 km from the 360 Kennedy Lane application site. When built 12 years ago, the building permit required that each tenant driveway have 2 parking spots. It now has 15 family units with 40 parking spaces. Plans are underway for green vehicle charging stations. This is a ratio of 2.7 parking spaces per unit, compared to the "urban exception" of 0.75 ratio that is being forced on the Orleans community. This means the current real world situation in our suburbia is 3.6 times that of the city's allowance for vehicles.

At the last City Planning and Housing committee meeting, staff were tasked with addressing the issues of parking and traffic on 360 Kennedy Lane. Yet, there is no indication, in the latest staff report, that this has been done. Another planning and housing committee is being held on March 20th, to push through the approval for urban style re-zoning.

We urge everyone to attend the City Planning Committee Meeting on Monday, March 20, at 9:30 am, at Ottawa City Hall.

If you wish to speak at next Monday’s planning meeting in person, by Zoom, by phone (or just submit written comments), you must first contact the Committee Coordinator, Kelly Crozier at (613) 580-2424, extension 16875 or by email at Kelly.crozier@ottawa.ca  Deadline is Friday, March 17, 2023 at 4 pm. We strongly encourage attendance in person.
