Faring Capital is planning to tear down two blocks of historic Hollywood. This is an effort to stop or downsize this project and we need all the help we can get!  Attached is the link to voice your opposition.   We would really appreciate your signature.  Please add your own comments or edit the letter, it really helps if you can customize it a little!  The goal is to get as many signatures as possible to Councilman Ryu’s office.  The time is now.  Feel free to post or forward to others that might support us.

This development far exceeds LA City Planning’s Hollywood Community Plan in height limit and the FAR (Floor Area Ratio) zoned for this area.  If the city does not abide by its own rules, then why does zoning matter?  The new buildings would be 5 stories, but would match the height of a 6-story building at 60 feet; they would be the tallest structures by far on this part of Sunset.  Non-conforming and very much out of scale with the surrounding residential area, they would overshadow this classic section of Sunset Blvd.  This may be okay for the core area of Hollywood, but not here.

The community has repeatedly voiced concerns and objections regarding this project.  Our requests for adaptive reuse were quickly disregarded.  Why should our community surrender this historic area so that one developer makes a huge profit?

It is widely known that Councilman Ryu won on a wave of anti-development sentiment.  We voted for him because of this.  Where is he now that we need him?  A survey taken by the LA times found that "despite push back from residents, city officials approve 90% of zoning changes in favor of developers".

We ask that Councilman Ryu support his constituents by requesting the developer adapt and reuse the existing buildings or scale down the project to a more appropriate size in accordance with the current Community Plan.  We believe this project presents a significant threat to the safety, health and well-being of the neighborhood.  Traffic, density, infrastructure, and the destruction of neighborhood character must be addressed.
