The issue

McClelland Sculpture Park + Gallery is a nationally significant cultural organisation and a much-loved part of Frankston and Victoria's cultural landscape. For more than 55 years, it has brought together art, nature and community, welcoming generations of visitors and supporting artists, education and cultural experiences.

Today, McClelland's future is at risk due to long-term public underfunding. While we welcome approximately 60,000 visitors each year, McClelland receives just $2 in government funding per visitor, compared with $20–$30 for similar cultural institutions.

With Frankston City Council funding reduced by half and Victorian Government operational funding scheduled to end from the 2028 financial year, urgent action is needed.

McClelland is seeking $750,000 in annual government support to help secure its immediate future while longer-term solutions are developed.

We are calling on the Victorian Government, Frankston City Council and Federal Government to work together to provide sustainable operational funding and protect this important public cultural asset.

Losing McClelland would mean losing more than a gallery. It would mean losing an important place for artists, families, education, and creativity. McClelland matters. Its future matters. Keep McClelland here: community connection and the natural environment.
