Help Save Huntington's Historic Firehouse

This firehouse contained the first motorized fire department on Long Island and is an important historic building in the village. Not only is it very recognizable in old photographs, but it's close in proximity to other historic buildings and locations such as the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial and the Old Burial Ground.
The current owner now wants to demolish this firehouse to make room for a new 4-story mixed-use apartment house containing 84-apartments along with a parking garage. While new construction in the village can be positive, it should not be done at the expense of our historic landmarks. Such buildings should be preserved and incorporated into any new construction project whenever possible out of respect for the village's history.
Once these buildings are demolished, they are gone forever and no longer available for future generations of Huntingtonians to enjoy. We ask for your support in this effort, one building at a time.
