Help Save Glenhope Bush Camp - Cobar
The issue
Glenhope Bush Camp, a cornerstone of our community's tourism landscape.
This beloved campground has been a significant contributor to our local economy, offering travellers an escape into nature while supporting our Cobar businesses. But now, Glenhope Bush Camp faces an overwhelming challenge that has jeopardize its future and, in turn, affect the vitality of our town & businesses.
The travelling community & Cobar Community is shocked to learn that the conditions for the Glenhope Bush Camp development approval include mandatory road upgrades to a state road with a staggering cost of over $1.2 million. This financial burden makes it nearly impossible for the campground to meet these Development conditions, placed on us by Local Council & Transport NSW, posing a serious threat to the economic health of Cobar.
While road improvements are important for safety and accessibility, the current requirements are financially exorbitant and unfeasible. Instead of supporting tourism, these conditions risk deterring it, potentially leading to a reduced visitor numbers, and a significant economic downturn for our community.
We urge the decision-makers, including relevant government departments and Tranport NSW & local council, to reevaluate these upgrade requirements. Collaboration is key—it's crucial that they work directly with the landowners to identify a practical, fair, and achievable solution. This cooperation should focus on phased or alternative measures that enhance road conditions while keeping Glenhope operational and welcoming for tourists.
Glenhope Bush Camp is not a business its a cherished part of Cobar, with history. Its existence benefits everyone in the community, including businesses. Let us protect this camprgound by calling on the authorities to act with reason and support.
Please sign this petition to show your support for a thoughtful and collaborative approach to preserving Glenhope Bush Camp and fortifying the tourism industry in Cobar.
Your signature can make a difference in securing a sustainable future for our cherished campground.
