Help save Cragin Elementary School in Tucson From closure.
The Issue
🐾 SAVE CRAGIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!
Our School. Our Community. Our Future.
Help Us Stop the Proposed Closure of Cragin Elementary School in Tucson, Arizona!
Imagine being told that the school your children love, the teachers they trust, and the community your family has grown to depend on may soon disappear.
For the families of Cragin Elementary School, this is becoming a heartbreaking reality.
On October 21, 2026, Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) announced a proposal to close Cragin Elementary and consolidate its students with Blenman Elementary beginning in the 2027–2028 school year.
We are asking our Tucson community to stand with us and help SAVE CRAGIN ELEMENTARY!
💚 More Than a School — We Are a Family
For generations, Cragin Elementary has been a place where children take their first steps toward success, friendships are formed, and families find a sense of belonging.
Our school is filled with dedicated teachers, compassionate staff, an inspiring principal, and families who go above and beyond to support our students.
Cragin is a place where children are recognized as individuals, where students with special needs receive familiar and supportive care, and where parents know their children are surrounded by people who genuinely care about them.
Many of our families choose Cragin through open enrollment year after year, not because they have to, but because they believe in the community we’ve built.
You cannot simply move students into another building and expect the same sense of belonging to follow.
🏫 Why Close a School With So Much to Offer?
Cragin has a campus designed to accommodate approximately 625 students, with valuable facilities and improvements that benefit our children.
Our campus features multiple playgrounds separated from the main road, an updated playground for younger students, and new shade structures in pickup and drop-off areas.
Our community has also worked tirelessly to improve our school through fundraising, volunteering, business partnerships, and projects such as our proposed Kindness Courtyard.
These investments represent a community that believes in its school and is actively working toward a brighter future.
If consolidation is necessary, why hasn’t moving Blenman Elementary to Cragin’s campus been given serious consideration?
Why close a campus with so much to offer without fully exploring every possible alternative?
💔 The Impact Goes Beyond the Classroom
Closing Cragin would mean more than changing where children attend school.
It would mean disrupting friendships, trusted relationships with teachers, support services, and the routines families depend on.
For students with disabilities or additional learning needs, familiar faces and consistent support can make an enormous difference.
For families who rely on transportation, live near district boundaries, or choose Cragin through open enrollment, the proposed closure may create additional challenges.
And for our surrounding neighborhood, losing another community school could have lasting consequences.
Once a neighborhood school closes, we may never get it back.
🐾 We Are Asking TUSD to Explore Other Options
We respectfully urge the TUSD Governing Board to:
Keep Cragin Elementary School open and preserve the community we have worked so hard to build.
Consider expanding Cragin into a K–6 or K–8 school to better utilize its facilities.
Evaluate the possibility of consolidating Blenman onto Cragin’s campus instead.
Consider the impact on students, families, transportation, special education services, and surrounding neighborhoods.
Visit Cragin Elementary personally to see our campus, meet our families, and understand everything our school has to offer.
Include parents, educators, and community members in meaningful conversations before making a final decision.
💚 WE NEED YOUR HELP!
You do not have to be a Cragin parent to care about what happens to our school.
Maybe you attended Cragin years ago. Maybe your children or grandchildren walked these halls. Maybe you live nearby, own a local business, or simply believe that neighborhood public schools are worth protecting.
This is about more than one school. It is about preserving educational opportunities, protecting neighborhood communities, and making sure families have a voice in decisions affecting their children.
Every signature represents someone who believes Cragin Elementary deserves a future.
