The Issue

Cancer in Sri Lanka is a growing health concern that affects thousands of individuals and their families each year. It is one of the leading causes of death in the country, with increasing numbers of both men and women being diagnosed with various forms of cancer. The most common types include breast, lung, and colorectal cancer. Unfortunately, many people in Sri Lanka face significant challenges when it comes to accessing timely and affordable treatment, especially in rural areas where healthcare resources are limited. While advances in medical care have improved survival rates, cancer remains a major burden on the healthcare system, and awareness about early detection and prevention is crucial. With the right support and investment in healthcare, Sri Lanka can improve cancer treatment outcomes and provide better care for those in need.

Tobacco use prevalence (15+ years): ~29% males, ~5% females
Alcohol consumption (regular users): ~35% males, ~5% females
Obesity prevalence: ~22% females, ~17% males
HPV vaccination coverage (girls): ~80% (as of 2024/2025)

Radiotherapy centers: 6 main centers (e.g., Maharagama Apeksha Hospital)
Availability of chemotherapy: Moderate, centralized in major cities
Cost of cancer care: Largely subsidized in government hospitals

I’m reaching out today to ask for your help in supporting a cause that is close to my heart. Every year, thousands of children are diagnosed with cancer, facing not only the challenge of battling this devastating disease but also the financial strain of medical treatments and support. Together, we can make a difference by raising funds to help provide these children with the life-saving care they desperately need. Your generous donation will go directly toward funding treatment, research, and essential resources for these brave young warriors and their families. No amount is too small, and every contribution brings us one step closer to a future where children no longer have to fight this battle alone. Please consider donating today and sharing this message with others. Together, we can give these children hope for a brighter tomorrow."
