Alberta has been hit hard by devastating wildfires in recent years, causing significant damage to our communities, wildlife and natural resources. It is time for us to take action and help save Alberta from these destructive fires.

According to the Government of Alberta, there were 1,288 wildfires in the province in 2020 alone. These fires burned over 880,000 hectares of land and forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes. The cost of fighting these fires was estimated at $176 million.

Climate change is a major factor contributing to the increase in wildfires in Alberta. Warmer temperatures and drier conditions make it easier for fires to start and spread quickly. In addition, human activity such as campfires or discarded cigarettes can also spark a wildfire.

We need more resources dedicated towards preventing and fighting wildfires in Alberta. This includes investing in fire prevention measures such as clearing brush around homes or implementing fire bans during dry periods. We also need more firefighters on the ground with better equipment to combat these blazes.
