My grandfather has been prescribed medical cannabis by his family physician for diabetic nerve damage & personality disorder. He has tried multiple medications including narcotics to no avail to stop his pain/involuntary movement. Medical cannabis oil has been the only medicine that has stopped his movement & pain to allow him to sleep at night with ease.

However, due to being blind & in wheelchair its hard for him to administrate himself. CONMED the company that runs his nursing home has had their backs up towards the subject. They have forced my family to come in & give my grandfather his medicine ourselves as their policy strictly prohibits staff from giving him his marijuana medications.

In the coming days my family will being going away for a week long camping trip & fear my grandfather wont be able to receive his medicine due to their discriminative policy. With this major concern in mind we presented the issue to CONMED in hopes they could possibly find a solution to their policy ultimately allowing nurses to administrate it. Laurie Turcottte the lady that deals with policy immediately had her back up.

Laurie who deals with these policies directly at CONMED couldn't care less about my grandfather. Her response to our concern was "We have had several discussions about our policy & have adapted it to be accommodating as we can. My staff don't have to administrate it & don't want to administrate it."

We tried to explain to Laurie at the end of the day its prescribed by his doctor & benefits from it so there is an ethical duty to administrate the medication. She continued her stance by explaining in direct quotes "Its not a medication & we don't have to administrate it." When I explained that nurses are able to posses medical cannabis for patients & are allowed to administrate it she just came up with excuse after excuse.

Quote "We have a right as an organization to not administrate it - its not a medicine." - Laurie Turcotte.

My family is desperately trying to get my grandfather his medicine & need this issue highlighted. CONMED has no problem giving my grandfather OXYOTIN but, not cannabis oil? We are his only relatives in the area - left with no answers other than "Its not a medicine & they won't do it."
