Help restore Castlebank's derelict outbuildings into a space for Lanark

Help restore Castlebank's derelict outbuildings into a space for Lanark
The Issue
For decades, the iconic Castlebank Stables — a B-listed building at the heart of Castlebank Park — have stood derelict in the centre of our community. Despite being one of Lanark's most distinctive historic structures, these beautiful stone buildings have been locked away and left to decay for years.
We need your help to change this.
Lanark Community Development Trust has secured the Community Asset Transfer of the buildings from South Lanarkshire Council and is actively working to restore them for the benefit of the whole community. We have architects appointed, surveys underway, and funding applications underway. The buildings will be brought back into community use, preserving their unique character for future generations while creating real benefits for Lanark. The restoration will offer new spaces for community activities and potential tourism opportunities that could boost the local economy.
LCDT has done this before. The Castlebank Horticultural Centre — restored from a derelict sawmill in the same park — is now a thriving, award-winning community asset visited by many. We know how to deliver projects of this scale.
Every signature on this petition sends a clear message to funders and decision-makers that the people of Lanark are behind this project. The more support we can demonstrate, the stronger our case for the funding we need to make this a reality. Scottish Land fund dictates we need to show support of 5% of the community (around 450 people).
Sign today and help us bring these buildings back to life — for our community, for our heritage, and for generations to come.
