Help Rescue Coco from her Abusive- Neglectful Owner and Temporarily Foster her.

The Issue

Greetings animal lovers!!
So all of my animal True Activist friends that I've tagged in this post, as you all know by now; I rescue fur kids from less-than-favorable homes.

On October 1st, 2023, I let a lady into my home via a so-called friend after he asked me to allow his wife to stay with me for a while; as she was a transient, bouncing from home to home every 3-4 months; as her husband didn't want her residing there due to her drug issues, mental health issues etc...etc. (( Which I hadn't been informed about by her husband before allowing that lady to reside in my home)). I have a heart and allowed her, and she came with this beautiful little lady Coco, a Toy Poodle.

Upon her owner's short residency here of almost 3 weeks, and before her moving into my house for a (so-called brief time) she did not tend to Coco's care properly, her nails had almost grown into her pads, her hair and coat were so matted that I had to shave her down to her skin. In fact, Coco couldn't stretch her right leg out due to extreme matting to the skin. She had so much crust around her eyes that had hardened due to not simply wiping them, and due to her owner stress, yelling, screaming and I could go on, but due to confidentiality as to her other habits; poor Coco would just sit and shake, always having people yelling around here...Just horrific.

Coco is presumably 13-14 years old now. Blind in one eye, and the other starting to go!!! If my dog Jax would bark, she would grab her muzzle so hard she'd whimper in pain. And since her being here 1 molar has fallen out, and the others are barely hanging on, which I will be tending to once this horror story for her is over.

Upon kicking the owner out of my home due to trust issues, drug issues which I DO NOT permit in my home whatsoever, and not tending to my own things ( attempting to complete my autobiography that was due yesterday the 1st of November 2023, winterizing, etc....),

I've with much consciousness decided to withhold Coco from yet an even more stressful situation in her being back living with her husband where it's insanely dirty, where there is this lady's cat Max, which is sadly severely matted to an extreme,  3 other dogs, 4 more cats as to where they are not tended too, their litter box is rarely cleaned, and when I have attended the home, I've had to feed and water the cats and dog. The stressful environment is astronomical, constant yelling from this man ( the husband) and his 4 adult children, doors slamming, and ppl in and out of the house 24/7!!! I was NOT allowing this poor little sentient Coco to have to endure any more stress.

It's heartbreaking to think that an owner can let a dog go for so many years without grooming, yet claim to love this dog so much, allowing Coco's nails to nearly grow into her pads yet AGAIN as her prior landlord had told me, as they had to cut the nails out last time. She's left Coco up in 90-degree weather in an attic while she was outside drinking.

I had to ask her on several occasions if she had FED COCO.. Her response was always a blank stare and an " I can't remember"!
YOU CAN'T REMEMBER?? I was feeding her and still am on a healthy balanced diet twice a day now, ensuring that the kibble was softened by hot water, as her teeth are horrifically bad.

Coco weighed 4.5 lbs once her owner was kicked out. She NOW weighs 6.8 lbs in 2 weeks. I could feel her spine, her ribs etc. Now, her eyes are brighter, she has spunk in her now, she is no longer shaking in fear, and has adjusted brilliantly here in my home. etc...

However, please note, that during the caregiver of Coco; she had repeatedly insisted on SEVERAL occasions that she wanted me to be the temporary caregiver for Coco until she found long-term safe accommodations for herself and for Coco.
I truly would WANT her to have Coco back in her care, I really would, but as I had stated on so many occasions; she couldn't until she found long-term SAFE caring accommodation for BOTH of them. It's sad that this situation is geared toward her husband who doesn't want her around, and is extremely mad at me right now that I've had to drop the owner ( his WIFE), off at his home again.

They have called the OPP on me twice ( last Wed & Friday), granted the Constables that have taken this case have been very sympathetic towards this case and in fact rescue animals themselves; I've tried contacting the SPCA, and awaiting their response for backing, if it isn't done by this Friday, they ( the owner and MORESO her husband ) are insisting that I be charged with theft and arrested as per protocol, summons to attend court, and released. As I DO understand these Constable have bid me time gracefully and thankfully the past 2 weeks. They have been amazing. Thank you Cost. Francois Van Jaarsveldt & Cost. Michael Barnes ( the Const who is in charge of this case)
