Help Reform Senior Course Scheduling at Saugus High School
The Issue
Seniors at Saugus High School have been faced with poorly designed course scheduling. Five different senior focused AP courses have all been placed into the same two period slots. Other popular elective programs have also been placed in the 4th and 5th period slots. The seniors at Saugus are being made to choose between many of their desired courses as a result of the overlapping placement of all of the aforementioned classes and programs.
For reference, as of writing, the course scheduling including the various overlapping courses is as follows:
4th Period:
- AP Physics 2 (Single Period Course)
- AP Environmental Science (Two Period Course)
- AP Statistics (Two Period Course)
- ASB (Single Period Elective)
5th period:
- AP European History (Single Period Course)
- AP Environmental Science (Two Period Course)
- AP Computer Science A (Single Period Course)
Other programs and limited period courses could also be overlapping within fourth and fifth period, but we as students only have limited access to the schedule and these are the primary issues we are currently aware of.
In the case that none of these scheduling issues are fixed, seniors will be heavily restricted in the classes they are capable of taking, and will be unable to properly academically challenge themselves.
With Senior Registration just around the corner on Monday, July 31st, the time to act is now. We as Saugus students need to fight for our academic rights and advocate for our education. Administration has the power to alter the schedule in order to properly accommodate all students, and we as students are working with our staff in order to create change!
If you are a Saugus student, sign the petition in order to advocate for your own education. Share and spread the word.
The primary purpose of our petition is simply to assert our position and advocate for scheduling changes. We have various potential solutions ready to be proposed assuming we are granted the opportunity to assist in the institution of change.
