Recently two Correctional Officers at KCIW were walked out(fired). One female officer was walked out for a variety of violations including but not limited to hoarding inmates mail and not giving them their mail entirely, using the lights as a torture tactic and most importantly took an inmate to the hospital and while the inmate was in surgery, took her gun belt/gun/etc off and took a nap. A male officer was walked out for pushing open bathroom stall doors in women’s restrooms and doing similar in the showers and finally, worst of all, was caught sniffing the inmates dirty under garments. Most of us are shielded off from this world but these are normal occurrences for prisoners. Another normal occurrence that was reported recent is of an above ground sewage pipe running through the kitchen that has an awful stench you can smell through the drains as well as having large roaches, mice and rats running around the kitchen. The most common thing in prison kitchens is the food which reads “for zoo animals and prisoners only.” This is how the inmates are looked at, not as humans with emotions and families who love and are loved but rather , “zoo animals “ getting food not fit for human consumption. 
On a brighter note Taira has completed 27 courses in the new courses now available on the tablets to the inmates they have a wide range of topics but are always about bettering themselves and preparing themselves for life outside the prison walls.
