The Issue

My mother, a substitute, who has been working and volunteering at our local school for multiple years has been treated unfairly by not being covered under workers compensation insurance after suffering an injury while on duty.

When she signed up for a job at the middle school she was ecstatic. She signed up to be a band teacher. When she got to the school and after subbing as them, the school told her to switch to the chorus teacher. The problem with this is that she did not sign up for this job. When she switched, there was a pedestal and a chair. It was where the teacher was told to sit. So she sits on the chair. After she is done with her class, she fell and broke her leg in three separate places. No one was in there to help her, so she calls the school nurse to get help.

After she gets help from the nurse she was immediately escorted to the hospital. She was in the hospital for 10 days. The school board paid for none of the hospital bills.

By signing this, it can prevent others from getting injured on the job and having to worry about payments
