The Issue

Over the summer the state of Texas passed a law that requires teacher to use students legal name and biological pronouns. If a student was to request for a teacher to use a preferred name, or pronouns, or even just talks about it to another student, teachers are legally required to call home and tell the students parent or guardian.

This could gravely affect the safety and mental health of the student. We don't know a students home life, and outing them to their parents could make it really bad. If the parents dont support they could do a number of things to their kid, like kick them out, abuse them, or even sent them to camps to "help them get better"

By acting now, we can help queer students remain in a safe environment, both at school and at home. Help Queer Kid by legalizing the use of preferred names and pronouns in schools!
