RARE - Rostrevor Action Respecting the Environment
May 10, 2018
A photo taken this morning of the JC Campbell development site, where apartment blocks up to 25 metres above road level may be built, just metres from Rostrevor's 350 year-old Ancient Oakwood. Demoltion and removal of a dwelling house and uprooting of trees has now commenced on a development which is currently under Judicial Review, with the case (contesting the decision made by six Newry, Mourne and Down councillors to approve contrary to the Planning Department's recommendation for refusal) to be heard in the High Court on June 18th. In commencing work at this point, it appears the developer has failed to comply with the lenghty list of stringent planning conditions attached to the decision notice. Having previously ignored the serious concerns raised by the public about this development in terms of potential impacts on our ancient woodland, road safety and tourism-dependent local economy, it now seems the developer is also ignoring the law. We have notified the relevant planning and Council authorities and await their response and would encourage each and everyone of you to do the same. planning@nmandd.org; liam.hannaway@nmandd.org; anthony.mckay@nmandd.org; pat.rooney@nmandd.org For more info: https://www.facebook.com/RostrevorActionRespectingtheEnvironment/videos/585798148462655/
