The Issue

Students, parents and teachers we need to speak up!

Permian 2026/2027 School year will have 9 periods for high schoolers! 

Help us show them that it didn't work in 2020 it wont work now kids are skipping because its too much and now it'll be more.

Stop this from happening, because if not students will have to be at school earlier leave later and have way more work to do which will effect our learning greatly!

Students cant focus by the end of the day because they are over worked and now they are trying to make us work more.

Our teachers will also suffer since they wont be getting paid extra for extra work.

“For some time now, Ector County ISD has lagged behind state averages in academic achievement. It is not for a lack of desire to improve outcomes for students, nor for a lack of will or strategic efforts. Still, at this time, the District finds itself in a position to make a dramatic change. The number of students who fail a class or an End of Course (EOC) exam or both has increased over time and attempts to help those students catch up and then continue to advance have proved ineffective. The 9-day period being implemented for the 2026-27 school year at New Tech Odessa, Odessa High School, and Permian High School is intended to finally make significant improvement by giving students an extra academic period to focus on the knowledge and skills they lack while still giving them the opportunity to stay on track for graduation. For students who are not behind in credits, the additional period will allow them to add an elective that they are interested in or potentially be part of a work-study sequence. Seniors who have met all EOC requirements and are scheduled into all courses needed for graduation could have the option to take less than 9 periods. We know this change will impact the schools' master schedules and will change the way these schools have traditionally operated.
