The Ontario Land Tribunal today approved an ugly plan by the City that is a blatant act of ageism and discriminates against seniors. Senior citizens who are in the care of the City of Toronto Seniors Housing Corp. itself!
For the past 2 years the City of Toronto has plotted to ignore the rights of the many hundreds of seniors living in long term and supportive care at Willowdale and Cummer Avenues.
The City's plans to steal the seniors' front lawn green space, clear cut dozens of mature trees and install prefab single living units were made in secret with no public pre-consultation.
And when seniors, their families and neighbours protested, the City refused to designate the new units for the benefit and use of seniors. Seniors who have been housed on this site for 50 years!
It is the most blatant act of ageist discrimination that one can imagine.
