Today, Toronto officials betrayed their duty to seniors in their care. The City ignored the rights of residents and families of Willowdale Manor Seniors Home at 175 Cummer Avenue.  For the record, this is a City-run seniors care home property. The seniors living there in low income supportive housing are in the care of Toronto Housing which has a duty to protect their rights and interests. These seniors are mostly  ethnic, non English speakers, and low income.

The City did not discuss with them or their families the City's secret  plans to deprive the seniors of the parklands on their property. The parklands are an amenity of the seniors home and on the same property. Local Willowdale Councillor John Filion himself identified these parklands as a seniors amenity in 1997 when he fought against their redevelopment. The OMB agreed in 1998.

CITY OFFICIALS have ABUSED SENIORS' rights, delayed finding an alternate site and now ARE SIMPLY PLAYING POLITICS against Ontario MPP Stan Cho and Premier Doug Ford. The City of Toronto, driven by notorious local Councillor John Filion, is REFUSING to cooperate and is insisting that the ONLY site they will accept to place 59 prefab housing containers is the Willowdale Manor Seniors Home residents parklands! Protected green space of the hundreds of elderly occupants of Willowdale Manor and Cummer Lodge care homes.

And let's all be thankful to  MPP Stan Cho for standing up to the bullies at City Hall who insist on stealing our seniors' protected parklands on the property where they live. MPP Stan Cho has proven that he is a KIND PERSON. And we love KIND PEOPLE.

In a recent letter to Toronto Housing Chair/Deputy Mayor Ana Bailão, Willowdale MPP Stan Cho made it official. RE: 175 Cummer Ave (Willowdale Manor seniors care home parklands), MPP Cho states “….this site is just not suitable…. I am committed to working with the City to ensure we can find a more suitable location in Willowdale."

Unfortunately Ana Bailão , City of Toronto Mayor John Tory, housing Czar Abi Bond and Willowdale Councillor John Filion (who hatched the secret plan and has insulted everyone who raised concerns) continue to play politics and blame the Ontario Government and Doug Ford for the city's own mistake, instead of doing the right thing.

Let's all push them to do the right thing. Do right by Seniors. Do right by the Environment. And do right by the Homeless. You don't have to choose one. Good and honest politicians can do all 3.
