INSURERS could be forced to offer policies to all properties in North Queensland if proposals from two local MPs are adopted by the Federal Government.
Dawson MP George Christensen, who has campaigned extensively to get insurance companies to reduce the cost of premiums for North Queensland homeowners, said he believed insurers should be forced to underwrite policies for multi-home developments as they were required by law to be covered.
"If you have got mandatory insurance you have take out as a consumer … and we all know people who live in a high rise compelled by law to have that insurance," he said.
"Then the insurers should also be mandated to provide that.
"If we have mandated competition we will have lower prices."
