I managed to get 30 mins with the State Treasurer Tim Nicholls on Sunday 21st April at the Ayr Community Cabinet meeting to discus the insurance crisis in North Qld. The main aim was to make sure Tim knew about the true situation facing North Qld (he does now) & to get the State legislation regarding mandatory strata full replacement value ++ looked at for changes to be seriously considered. If we can get this amended to include proper risk assessment it could allow us to insure to a recommended value rather than a mandatory value this would make an immediate difference to us, & allow new insurance models to come into the market. I left them with a discussion paper indicating what else State Government could look at to help all of us (not just strata), a few relevant newspaper cuttings, & some case histories. I have a further meeting at 10.00 tomorrow (Tuesday) morning with Rosemary Menkens in Townsville to discuss the subject further – and it won’t just be strata insurance!!
