As you would be aware the Federal Government has put forward a reinsurance pool for Central and North Qld in order to help solve the insurance crisis being experienced here.
A conversation paper has been released by Treasury and it can be found at https://treasury.gov.au/consultation/c2021-175678 It’s 24 pages and needs to be responded to by the 18th June. although I admit due to family illness I haven’t yet read it.
Please, if you have the time, submit to the Taskforce. If you do not want to, or cannot, do a full submission then just send me an email with your comments and I will add them as an appendix to our submission (NAIL) www.nail.org.au Your name and contact details must be supplied for Treasury, but please indicate if they are not for publication. You can also contact me at whitsundayinsurance@gmail.com
We must get this right and consumers must be involved in decisions not just be told by southern bureaucrats what will work and is best for us. In particular, we need to consider what types of policies will be affected by the reinsurance pool and whether all homes (including rental properties) and small businesses are covered, and whether larger properties not defined as residential also need to be considered.
