Hi All,
I've only glanced at the 268 pages BUT I am genuinely pleased with what I've read so far, and I suggest, if you're interested, you go straight to the Recommendations and Draft Recommendations.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has today released its Northern Australia Insurance Inquiry first interim report. The report and media release are published on our website at www.accc.gov.au/insurance .
We acknowledge and thank the hundreds of local residents, property owners, local councils, and interest groups who attended our public forums and/or made a submission to our inquiry. Your contribution has been very important.
The report sets out our findings about the operation of markets for home, contents and strata insurance in northern Australia. We also set out measures that could be taken to begin to address the problems we identified.
The report also outlines focus areas for the next stage of our inquiry. The key focus in 2019 will be to explore what further measures could be considered to improve the affordability and availability of insurance in northern Australia.
The report invites submissions on draft recommendations and we would welcome your participation in this consultation. Submissions are due on 12 April 2019.
Kind regards
I have lots of comments, of course, but the fact the ACCC has identified insurers as possibly raising their premiums in order to loose customers, or no longer selling or renewing policies, proves there is a major problem with insurance in northern Australia and, I believe, North Qld in particular. Something the people of North Qld have been saying since 2011 when the crisis started.
