Me thinks there may be an election coming... Don't get too excited but those on low income with pre 1981s properties should be able to apply for grants of up to $11,250 to help cyclone proof their homes (or 75% of the cost if less). It is a step in the right direction. I have also asked whether the ICA and insurance companies will be matching the $20M investment but I'm told NO. Those of us who live in post 1981s houses, strata, or not on low income (yet to be defined) get no joy, and no reduction in premiums. Also, I'm not sure who is going to administer the money, it has taken our current State Government 3 years to work out who's administering the $12.5M we got in 2014. We need a guarantee from the ICA that if work is undertaken a reduction will be forthcoming because at the moment only Suncorp and the RACQ will offer reductions for mitigation work (up to 20%).
