Dear All, With reports already coming in of 20% - >100% increases in insurance premiums due to TC Debbie, I have decided to collate a book. This is not for publication yet, but I have been sending the Chapters as they are completed to every State and Federal member of our Government and to all Senators. So far they have received: C1 Introduction; C2 Brief History; What Happened To The People of North Qld; C4 Why It Happened; and I've just sent C5 Not My Problem. I am getting some response but we have to keep up the pressure as we cannot allow the same situation as happened in 2011 to happen again. However, its not looking good here at the moment. Feel free to drop your State and Federal Members an email asking them how they like it. Many North Qld State members, in particular, seem to be missing in action. There is something I need to point out, the difference between “responsibility” and “its not my problem”, they may not have direct responsibility for something but it is definitely their problem. It is a great honour to be elected to Government, but when you are, your Government takes on the responsibility for the whole of Australia and not just the little bit that elected you, this is especially so with the Senate. I have explained to State and Federal Members their responsibility does not end when they cross the border of their electorate. Their electorate must take priority, of course, however they are part of a bigger picture and have to consider and act to the best of their ability for the safety, health, and economic well being of the people of Australia as a whole. They are not doing that, they are washing their hands of the problem because they see it as not their responsibility. The people of Northern Australia, and Queensland in particular, are here to tell them that it is their responsibility and it is their problem no matter what, even if they are in opposition, or in one of the minor parties. At least with previous Governments, and even Prime Ministers, someone tried to do something but its come to a screaming halt. There’s been: rejection of every recommendation from the cross party inquiry in 2012; a rejection of all recommendations from the Productivity Commission investigation into Natural Disasters 2014-2016; no response at all to the NAIP Taskforce report (which is heavily flawed – details can be supplied) 2015-ongoing; a huge amount of time, effort and money wasted on various investigations and still nothing. We shall see.
