I have heard the stories and didn’t think much of it until it happened to me. On Friday evening, july 4, 2025, i received a phone call from a trusted friend that my instagram account was gone. I couldn’t believe it myself. I thought there might have been a mistake and i quickly appealed it thinking this would get resolved within a day. It has been three days of social isolation up to the time of writing this without resolve from instagram that lead to nowhere but useless links and no human to vent my frustration with.

As of 2025, there has been a mass surge of Instagram accounts from ordinary people getting suspended and often banned. Instagram uses AI as part of its content moderation process, which can lead to accounts being wrongfully banned without a live human giving a second look. Many people, who make their living off of instagram, have had their livelihoods taken away from them due to this careless process.

And why not just make a new account? I cannot speak for others but for myself. I’ve had this account for 13 years, thats half my life. I have memories on there that I still look back on to remember where I started and to remember the people in my life who shaped me to become who I am today. I and other affected peoples cannot just make up 13 years of their lives.

Like with many others due to accounts being linked up with Meta, i cannot access my Facebook account or messenger. There are people who do not have my number and that is the only place where I can keep in touch with them. Because of one suspension from Instagram, I am essentially locked out and socially isolated on all platforms.

i have friends who have sadly passed away over the years still added on my instagram and facebook. People who i cannot make memories with anymore and many of the records of their lives and our memories are on my account.
