Why this petition matters
Started by Josh Local Resident
The City of Port Phillip’s New Domestic Animal Management Plan 2022-25 Outlines not only a “Cat Curfew” but also the ongoing practice of : “Cat traps available for the public to utilise to contain nuisance, unowned or feral cats.”
Anyone with compassion and knowledge of the darkness that can reside inside the human soul can see what could go wrong.
Letting members of the public trap “nuisance, unowned or feral cats” with the combination of an unenforceable “Cat Curfew” will clearly lead to the potential abuse of animals.
For example:
- Vindictive residents trapping cats that visit their yards to get back at perceived slights from neighbours.
- Beloved family pets being euthanised after accidentally being caught in traps
- People trapping cats due to mere dislike of them.
This petition calls upon the Port Phillip City Council to immediately stop their public cat trap program and review implementing positive Cat Ownership programs instead of taking a punitive approach.
