Help Make Route 25A Safer at Moores Hill Rd & Laurel Hollow Rd
The Issue
We are asking Nassau County, New York State, the Village of Laurel Hollow, and the appropriate transportation authorities to make Route 25A safer at two difficult intersections in Laurel Hollow: Moores Hill Road and Laurel Hollow Road.
For many residents and drivers in our community, these intersections have become a daily safety concern.
At the bottom of Moores Hill Road, making a left-hand turn onto Route 25A can be extremely challenging. Traffic on 25A is often steady, and it can take a long time to find a safe opening. As cars continue to approach from both directions, drivers sometimes feel pressured to make the turn before there is a truly comfortable gap. This creates unnecessary risk for everyone on the road.
The intersection of Laurel Hollow Road and Route 25A presents its own serious challenges. Visibility is limited, especially with cars coming up the hill at speed. Drivers entering or crossing 25A often have very little time to judge whether it is safe to proceed. During busy times, this intersection can feel especially unsafe and stressful.
These concerns are especially important for young families, school-age children, new drivers, older drivers, caregivers, commuters, and visitors who use these roads every day. Parents should not have to worry every time a teen driver needs to make one of these turns. Families should not feel anxious navigating intersections that are part of their daily routines.
Route 25A is a major roadway through our community, and safe access from local roads is essential. These intersections are not just inconvenient. They are places where drivers regularly experience limited visibility, fast-moving traffic, long waits, stressful decisions, and unsafe gaps.
