At Salinas High School every once a week on Wednesdays there are late start days in which school starts at 9:30 instead of 8:30. The problem with this is how this “late start” should be a permanent, every school day thing. Kids all around say themselves that they feel more alert and feel that they comprehend the material a lot easier, and not to mention the numerous amount of studies shown to prove that waking’s up too early isn’t optimal for a teenager’s ability to think clearly and grow physically & mentally. Not only would this be amazing for students, which is the main reason, but it would be a major help to teachers and staff who have to attend the school at those times aswelll—deadlines, preparations, and overall stress levels will go a lot smoother if this change is made.
