Help Idaho’s Overcrowded Animal Shelters—Fund Emergency Relief Now
The Issue
Across Idaho, animal shelters are bursting at the seams—and the root cause is economic hardship. Families facing job loss, rising rents, and soaring grocery bills are being forced to make heartbreaking choices: give up beloved pets because they simply can’t afford to care for them.
Shelter workers are seeing a wave of surrenders, not because people don’t love their animals—but because inflation has made pet food, veterinary care, and housing costs nearly impossible to keep up with. With no safety net for pet owners in crisis, shelters are the last stop. And they’re running out of space, staff, and resources fast.
Idaho’s shelters are doing everything they can—but they can’t solve this alone. Some are housing twice as many animals as they were built for. Volunteers are stretched thin. And every day, more animals are turned away, or worse, euthanized—not from neglect, but from sheer lack of space.
That’s why we’re calling on local and state leaders to act now: provide emergency funding and support for animal shelters across Idaho, and develop short-term relief for families at risk of surrendering pets due to financial hardship.
This isn’t just about animals—it’s about families, community well-being, and compassion. When we help struggling pet owners, we keep families together. When we support shelters, we reduce suffering and create healthier, safer neighborhoods for everyone.
Other states have stepped up with funding, grants, and pet food bank support. Idaho must not be left behind. Please sign this petition if you believe Idaho can—and should—protect its animals and the people who love them.
Let’s not let financial hardship destroy the bond between pets and their people. Stand with Idaho’s shelters. Sign and share today.
