On Monday, February 7, Juston Root’s family held a vigil marking the second anniversary of his death and repeated their call for an independent investigation. Below are a few highlights from the event.
At 9:15 a.m. on a snowy Monday morning, friends and family gathered to share memories of Juston amid a backdrop of photos detailing his life. Attendees observed a moment of silence at 9:29am, marking the time six law enforcement officers shot 31 bullets killing Juston. Juston’s sister and father, spoke at the vigil and the family placed a memorial marker at the site of Juston’s death. Please see attached photo.
“Knowing that Juston’s life was taken so violently and so carelessly is excruciating,” said his sister Jennifer, addressing the crowd while local news cameras captured the scene. "My family and I will never get over or move on from our anguish and trauma. We are forced to live with it, and will carry it with us always."
"After that terrible day two years ago, our family expected a fair and transparent investigation. But we soon learned, to our utter disbelief, it was neither independent nor transparent.”
