His father did not. In a move to attack Shin, and his human rights advocacy, the regime released a Propoganda video in 2014 of his father ridiculing Shin. Currently Shin is cycling to every North Korean embassy in Europe with two letters, one is a personal letter to his father. The other is a request to the North Korean government to allow him to meet his father. He has no political mandate on this journey. He only wants to have a personal connection with his Dad. North Korean diplomats have refused to give Shin an audience. While North Korea routinely makes bellicose threats of nuclear war, the regime appears petrified to meet with one single man.
