The Becton High School Girls Varsity Soccer team deserves equal access to Riggin Memorial Field for both practices and home games. Currently, the boys varsity and JV soccer teams utilize Riggin Memorial Field, with its high quality fields for their games and practice sessions. Furthermore, the girls are regulated to use the less ideal McKenzie Field at Mckenzie Elementary School. This difference in resources and location isn't just unfair, it's a violation of gender equality and equal opportunity in sports.

The girls and boys teams are both recently coming off of successful seasons, both placing first in their division. There is no reason to make the girls team practice at a smaller, harder to access field. Having our practices at Riggin field will make it more accessible to walk straight from school. Currently, we have to wait for a bus to take both the tennis team, girls soccer team, and students all together to McKenzie field. We have to start practice later due to the detour of the bus.

Other teams around the area have multiple sports teams sharing the same field- examples being boys & girls soccer as well as football and cross country sharing the football field. Riggins has a soccer field, football field, other grass areas, and a full 400 meter track. Signing this will help give access to a more regulated sized field for high school sports, as well as the track and football field will give us more ways to incorporate running and exercises.

We urge the administration of Becton Regional High School and local authorities to recognize this petition and to make the necessary arrangements to allow the girls varsity soccer team to use Riggin Memorial Field. All athletes should be treated equally.
