As a resident of Glebe, I was apalled about recent reports in the media on the NSW government's plan to keep greyhound racing at Wentworth Park beyond the current license expiry in 2027. This decision is completely out of touch with our community's interests. Judging by the empty grandstand at every race meeting, the local community has no interest in greyhound racing. Wentworth Park presents an amazing opportunity for transformation into a space that can be enjoyed by our local community and schools. It could serve as a hub for outdoor activities, sports events,  a green oasis amidst our urban landscape. However, these possibilities are being overlooked in favor of keeping an industry and race track  which has been criticized for its ethical issues related to animal welfare. Apparently there were 11 injuries and one death at the last meeting alone.

This petition calls on the NSW state government to reconsider this crazy idea and listen to their constituents who want Wentworth Park utilized in ways that benefit the entire community rather than just special interest groups. Why spend a billion dollars on an amazing new fish market that will transform Blackwattle Bay and then keep this dinosaur of a race track that will hold the whole area back. We urge you to stand with us against this decision and prioritize the needs and desires of Glebe and surrounding suburb residents over those of special interests. Please sign this petition today!
