Below is the court results provided by the embassy staff in Kuwait: "Embassy staff attended the appeals hearing for Jermaine on 6 Feb 2017. Jermaine was present, and a court interpreter was provided for the initial introduction; however, the case was presented in Arabic. Jermaine’s lawyer was given considerable time to make numerous arguments undermining the prosecution’s case, while the panel of judges listened very attentively. Some additional evidence was presented to the court, including Jermaine’s original lease showing a different address than the one listed by the District Attorney and police in the complaint. From what we could gather, Jermaine’s lawyer is attacking the conviction primarily on procedural and evidentiary grounds and errors made by the police and prosecution. After the hearing, embassy staff spoke to Jermaine’s attorney, who reported that: · the court will take 20-30 days to review the case and make additional inquiries to both sides. · At that point, a decision should be expected, and the attorney seems confident that--at the very least--the sentence will be reduced. It is even possible that the conviction could be overturned. The bottom line is that we will not know the outcome of this hearing for at least three weeks and probably closer to a month."
