The Issue

PETITION TO PROTECT DOUGLAS COUNTY FROM UNCHECKED DATA CENTER DEVELOPMENT

To the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, Planning Commission, and Local Elected Officials:

We, the undersigned residents, taxpayers, property owners, and concerned citizens of Douglas County, Georgia, respectfully request that Douglas County immediately halt approval of the proposed large-scale data center development until a comprehensive, independent review of its impacts on our community is completed.

Douglas County is a growing community valued for its neighborhoods, natural resources, green spaces, quality of life, and responsible development. While technological growth and economic development are important, they must not come at the expense of the people who live here.

We are concerned about:

• Increased demand on local water resources and infrastructure

• Increased demand on the electrical grid and the potential impact on utility costs

• Noise pollution from generators, cooling systems, and industrial operations

• Environmental impacts on wildlife, air quality, and natural resources

• Increased truck traffic and strain on local roads

• Potential decreases in nearby residential property values

• Limited permanent job creation compared to the scale of the project

• Lack of transparency and meaningful public input regarding the project’s long-term impacts

Therefore, we respectfully request that Douglas County:

Enact an immediate moratorium on approval of large-scale data center developments.
Require independent environmental, water, traffic, and infrastructure impact studies.
Conduct multiple public hearings with full disclosure of projected water and power usage.
Establish strict zoning protections, noise limits, setback requirements, and environmental safeguards.
Ensure residents have meaningful opportunities to participate in all decisions affecting their communities.

Our county’s future should be determined by the people who live here, not solely by outside corporations seeking to profit from our resources.

We urge our elected officials to protect Douglas County’s residents, environment, and quality of life before approving any large-scale data center development.
