Help Families & Students Thrive: Shift D93 Intervention Day to Fridays
The Issue
To Whom it May Concern:
We, the undersigned, are petitioning District 93 to change Intervention Day from Monday to Friday, and to make this a half day Friday every Friday for consistency sake.
“Intervention Days” have not proven to increase test scores forstudents participating in the ISAT. In fact, the number of students considered “below basic” has increased .1% and the number of “proficient” students has decreased 1.1% for the years 2020-2022 according to the Idaho Department of Education. On top of this, the State of Idaho has actually decreased their standards of proficiency in order to boost graduation rates.
Our students who participate in sports are better suited to have Fridays as intervention days as most sporting events are held on Fridays.
Childcare is difficult to find for only every other Monday due to the inconsistencies of D93’s schedule.
According to the Idaho Statesman Journal, Idaho women make up over 54% of the workforce. Many of these women have children and cannot find consistent childcare due to the district’s inconsistent practices.
Multiple studies show that students suffer from inconsistencies in schedule, especially students with special needs.
Finally, District 91 maintains a Friday schedule and many people who live in D93 work in D91 and would appreciate a consistent work schedule between the two districts.
