It’s been nearly two months without a working shower (as southern housing installed faulty wiring) and this is a fire hazard, I live on the top floor with my baby, I fear that a fire could break out due to the lack of concern. When someone finally came to fix it, they couldn’t even enter the building because Southern Housing hadn’t told them about the pest infestation, they have never informed any contractor that enters the building.

In the meantime, I’ve been trying to care for my 1-year-old son — in a flat with no hot water, a broken shower, and bed bugs.

He wakes up with swollen bites. I can’t even give him a proper bath to soothe his skin.

I feel helpless, watching him suffer in conditions no child — no person — should be living in.

And it’s not just affecting us.

This is a public health concern.

Bed bugs and vermin can easily spread to contractors, into their homes, onto public transport, and into other people’s lives.

I’m being charged £65 a month to use a communal room that’s completely infested — and completely unusable.

I’ve sent emails. I’ve raised complaints. I’ve provided evidence. 

This is neglect. This is dangerous.
