The Issue

In the heart of Emmetsburg, IA, a community full of compassion and care, we face a persistent challenge – the growing number of stray animals. These voiceless creatures, wandering the streets, are in desperate need of our help. Our vision is to turn this challenge into an opportunity, by establishing a much-needed animal shelter and sanctuary right here in Emmetsburg.

Due to the generosity of a wonderful woman, we were bequeathed the funds to  create and operate a facility that will give refuge, love and care for the voiceless, helpless and vulnerable for many years to come.

This isn't just a dream. It's a response to the overwhelming need in our community. While there are only two sanctuaries in the whole State of Iowa, none cater specifically to our corner of the state, leaving a critical gap in animal care services. Sanctuaries provide lifelong homes to animals that are typically considered unadoptable due to illness, injury, or age. Our proposed facility will serve a dual purpose as both a shelter and sanctuary, offering comprehensive care and love to all animals in need and offer programs for the community to be involved for the young and old.

Building this sanctuary is driven by our passion and commitment to animal welfare. But we cannot do it alone; we need the community’s support to make this dream a reality. The city requires us to obtain a zoning variance to purchase the building necessary for the shelter. By showcasing collective support and enthusiasm, we can persuade the Board of Adjustment to approve this variance and bring hope to countless animals and joy to animal lovers across the region.

Join us in making Emmetsburg a haven for animals. Lend your voice, share your support, and help us gain the approval needed to proceed. Sign the petition today to show the city that the Emmetsburg community stands united in making this sanctuary a reality, a place of refuge and kindness for all.
