The Issue

Here is everyone’s chance to get Elijah Carmack off the streets !!!

Elijah is NOT a criminal.  He is a man surviving homelessness, brain trauma and un treated mental illness.
As a child Elijah was struck by a car and was declared brain dead.  By miracle Elijah survived this and was left with a metal plate in his head that hat is now deteriorating.  That injury combined with years on the streets has left him struggling with serious neurological and mental health challenges.  He has been jailed multiple times, though jail has never healed him but only deepened his trauma.
Here’s the truth :

:45% of people experiencing homelessness live with severe mental illness.
:Jail doesn’t treat mental illness, it traps it.

:80% of formerly incarcerated individuals return to jail within 5 years, especially when their core needs are never addressed as they are human also.

Elijah does NOT need punishment.
He needs treatment, housing, and a chance.

we are asking the courts to break the cycle, not just for Elijah but other that are just like him.   Incarceration is not justice when the real issue is illness.

If we truley care about public safety and human dignity, we must stop locking away the vulnerable.
