Help change to OK hate laws to include sexual orientation and gender identity
Last night my very best friend was assaulted, kicked, scratched and stabbed in her head for being a lesbian. That's all. Just for being a lesbian. When I woke up this morning after spending many hours in the hospital last night I discovered that crimes against sexual orientation and gender identity are not listed as a hate crime here in Oklahoma. This is not only disturbing but it is appalling. I believe that if more people actually knew that what that monster did to my best friend was not considered a hate crime then action will be taken. Please reconsider this law to include sexual orientation and gender identity.
I just signed the following petition addressed to: Gov Mary Fallin.
Change the Oklahoma Hate Laws
I am sending you this email because I stand with Kayla and Amber and I want to update the hate crime laws! Please consider adding sexual orientation and gender identity to Oklahoma's Hate Crime Law for people that are assaulted and discriminated against due to sexual orientation and/or gender identity. No one should have to go through what Kayla has went through, as many people of the petition and Facebook campaign have revealed. Please consider this change and thank you for your time.
