Here in British Columbia the laws regarding animal abuse/cruelty are far too soft. As a person if you assault a person you could face from 4-14 years in jail with fines, However the same is not true with animals. Only 0.076% of people involved in cases of animal abuse or cruelty are prosecuted and those who commit these sickening crimes in BC only face fines, or at max 6 months to 2 years in jail. Animals are completely defenseless. With up to 10 million animal deaths related to abuse or cruelty a year it is unacceptable for those who commit these appalling crimes to go un punished or given fines rather than jail time. Pets aren't just dogs, cats or property, they are family and they should be protected the same way that human family members are. The last time the laws regarding animal abuse/cruelty were changed was 2008 that was 15 years ago! In those 15 years the number of animal abuse/cruelty cases has risen by a lot we know this, but in the last 8 to 9 months alone we have seen a rise of 30%

My goal is to change the laws and increase severity of punishments for both types of animal cruelty, both, active and passive animal cruelty.

Violence against animals that is intentional is considered an act of animal abuse. Physically harming an animal on purpose falls under this category.

If an animal is not properly fed, hydrated, or housed this is considered passive animal cruelty.

The reason I've started this petition is to show that this type of change is wanted by more than just myself. I need around 10 thousand signatures so please if you feel the same way as i do sign and share this petition
