The Issue

For nearly two years, we have been operating a dog rescue in Quincy, FL, providing a safe haven for countless dogs in need. We have worked tirelessly and passionately without any major issues from our neighbors, until now. We now face an unexpected and devastating challenge due to zoning laws.

We are being forced to pay $500 and file papers for a special use exemption just to continue our rescue work on this property. After this process, we will present our case before the zoning board whose recommendations will then be taken into consideration by the county commissioners who hold the final say.

This is not just about us; it's about all those dogs that depend on us for shelter and care. According to ASPCA statistics, approximately 3.3 million dogs enter U.S shelters every year - many of whom are euthanized due to lack of space or resources (ASPCA). Our rescue center plays an important role in reducing these numbers locally.

We understand that zoning laws exist for good reasons but believe there must be room for exceptions when lives – albeit canine ones – hang in the balance. We urge you not only as animal lovers but as compassionate individuals who value community service.

Please sign this petition urging Quincy's zoning board and county commissioners not only to grant us our special use exemption but also reconsider how their regulations impact non-profit organizations like ours that provide essential services within their jurisdiction. Your signature could save lives!
